Bristol Uganda Link

The Diocese of Bristol has relationships and partnerships with churches and schools in Uganda. In 2006 the Bristol Masindi Education Partnership was established to ‘advance the education of young people in Bristol and Masindi through school partnerships and curriculum development, particularly in relation to sustainable development, children’s’ rights and global citizenship.’

Since then school partnerships have been established with a regular exchange of news and personnel. In 2009 and 2010 over 30 teachers and students have visited each other and shared in lessons and home life.

Schools are able to build aspects from their links into their curriculum, giving subjects like geography, culture, art and food a personal face.

Bristol Director of Education, Jackie Waters-Dewhurst, is travelling out to Uganda in September to gain insights into the world of education in the country, and to draw up guidelines together to shape the future development of the link.

You can read about what she finds in her blog as she travels.
