“Loaves and Fishes” shows the work of the Sisters of the Church in helping homeless people and economically deprived children. It follows the nuns and community volunteers as they prepare and give out food parcels. The people involved talk about what they do and why.
The Year 6 children involved in making the film were given self-confidence to become interviewers and editors. They were able to closely observe and engage with the work of the Sisters and learn from them.
Funded by the Bristol Archdeaconry Charity and produced by Knowle West Media Centre, "Loaves and Fishes" was premiered at the Watershed cinema in Bristol in July 2010.
The film provides an educational resource for children and can be shown in school worship, RE lessons, church and Sunday school settings. It gives children the opportunity to consider how faith can be the reason why some people are motivated to live lives of self-sacrifice to help others.
It is particularly suitable for Harvest and Christmas preparation.
To help the Sisters of the Church directly in their work, you can volunteer time or consider donating tinned food, cereals, rice, pasta, tin openers, plastic bags and dog food.
